Having a lefty on your side of the court in recreational doubles play can really enhance your chances of winning. Traditionally I like to place the lefty on the deuce side of the court especially if the duo plays aggressive doubles. Of course, there is always the flip side where some lefties favor their backhands. ( History has shown many lefties have stronger backhands). Either way there is no wrong or right way to play. The key is to recognize where your strengths are in Lefty/Righty doubles and jump on it!
Strategy for Lefty/Righty Doubles: (Having a left handed and right handed doubles team)
Tactic: Place the Lefty on the deuce side of the court because:
• Both forehands and overheads are in the middle
• Lefty servers naturally serve to opponent’s backhand
• Lefty returns can be inside out forehands and natural crosscourt backhands
• Opponents will hit more low percentage shots forcing unforced errors
And remember… you don’t have to be a pro to train like a pro!
