Coaches and Tennis Enthusiasts:
One of 2 biggest out of position mistakes players make in doubles is:
1) They close to the net when the ball is deep
2) They stay close to the net after the return goes by them
This is a product of coaches constantly telling their students “CLOSE THE NET” well this simply puts you out of play and vulnerable to the lob.
TeamForman Tactics to better court positioning
1) On the return side if your partner returns deep DO NOT CLOSE THE NET. if she hits a short low ball then close
2) On the serve side, stand close on the serve, if the ball passes you retreat in an effort to close the gap between you and your partner. This will make it better to defend, off set a lob, or cut the angle to get a short ball
Remember – you don’t have to be a pro to train like a pro!
