Defend Your Partner’s Second Serve

Hey everyone! Today I want to talk about the server’s partner at net, specifically, where is the best on-court position to receive the return of a second serve.

So many rec players move back to the service line when their partner is serving a second serve. While it may be a good move if the receiver is consistently ripping bullets at the net player, it oftentimes backfires on the serving team, as it leaves a lot of court open for a ball to land at the feet of the net player.

If the returner doesn’t have a strong return, stay at the net and be ready for the return. DON’T retrieve to the service line. You’ll have a much better chance for a successful volley return that will either keep you in the point or win it for you.

And remember… you don’t have to be a pro to train like a pro!
