Coaches and Tennis Enthusiasts: I think we can all agree that most recreational players neglect working on their serve. What a shame since I tote that the serve and return are the 2 most important shots in doubles.
Look, I get it! Its tedious, difficult, and not fun to work on in a lesson. It’s one of those shots that’s hard to see immediate results. If you work on minor changes in small amounts time you’ll benefit more in the long run.
In this clip the before shot shows Karen just using her arm and really not going up after the ball. By making her jump, she subsequently tosses the ball higher and uses her legs to get her body up to the ball so she can put her weight into the serve. Her serve speed increased at least 25%.
Serving Tip: For players who don’t use their body to go up to the ball.
Solution: Make sure you create a jump (get off the ground) to hit the serve;
1) It makes you toss higher
2) It makes you use your legs
3) It makes you reach up to the ball
4) It makes your serve faster and better!
And remember… you don’t have to be a pro to train like a pro!
